We may not have it all together ... but together we have it all.

A Busy Weekend - A Wedding, A Class Reunion, and the Soul Food Fest

Our very dear friends Jake and Jessica tied the knot on August 5th. Cole and I had the privilege to be in their wedding. So the weekend was packed and on top of it all we had my 10 year class reunion.

Friday consisted of helping with bridal bouquets at Jessica's mom's house while Cole watched Marcus. Then Saturday we had a very busy day. The Soul Food Festival is always the first weekend of August and has become somewhat of a tradition for us. So Cole and I went with Marcus for some great food to start off our day. We had mac and cheese, fried chicken, jambalaya, cornbread, black eyed peas, peach cobbler, and sweet potato pie. We left very full and very satisfied.

After the Soul Food Fest we headed out to my 10 year class reunion. Let me tell you, it was fairly uneventful and there wasn't a lot of people that showed. This was not for lack of trying by the planners Dasha and David, it's just that no one really came. It was okay though, I got to spend time with my very good friend Lindsay whom I have been friends with since third grade. We spent some time at the bbq in the park at Ann Morrison and Cole and I got to show off the sweet baby Marcus.

We immediately headed to the rehearsal out at Jake and Jessica's Aunt's house. We ended up helping set up for the wedding and also rehearsing while out there. Then it was back into Boise again to go back to the class reunion. Megan watched Marcus as we went to the adults only portion of the reunion. David used to work for China Blue so he had arranged for us to get into the bar early to hang out and have drink specials. Once again, there wasn't much of a showing as far as people but it was lots of fun. It was the first time since before I was pregnant that I actually drank a significant amount of alcohol (confession: I had a bit of a hangover the next morning). We called it an early night since we had to get up very early for Jake and Jessica's wedding so we headed home around 11.

Sunday morning we were up bright and early. We had to be to the church by 8, so it was a very early morning! Kay came to watch Marcus and then we were off. They got married at the church by the BSU Stadium. We headed out to the reception in Banbury after the pictures at the church. Kay met us with Marcus at the reception. We got some great pictures of the three of us. Hopefully I will get some of the professional pictures from their wedding to post down the road. We celebrated with them at the reception until about 2 and then headed home for a much needed nap. The three of us napped for a few hours and then we went back out to dinner with them for a celebration at Kyoto - complete with sake bombs! What a wonderfully busy weekend. We are so happy for our dear friends and we feel fortunate that we were able to be there to help celebrate with them.

Happy Anniversary

Today is Cole and I's three year anniversary. We have weathered a lot in these past three years, but so far this year has probably been both the most rewarding year and the most challenging we have faced since being married. I guess that is a general theme of life, the harder it is, the sweeter the payoff.

This last year we went through a pregnancy, the birth of our sweet baby boy, the finishing of my Masters degree, the loss of Cole's job, and re-adjusting to having roommates again.

I'm sure we will endure more wonderful events with our baby boy and also endure even more challenging times. Knowing that I have him by my side makes everything better. It is hard, but it is worth it and I love him more and more each day.

As for what we are doing for our special day... well not a lot. With less income we have decided not to go all out this year. We will hold off celebrating until the Head and the Heart come to Boise in the fall. We both love this band and we will make that our date night and anniversary present to ourselves.
