Sunday was Cole's birthday. Although he didn't want to have a huge shin-dig this year, I think he still managed to have a good day. Sunday we woke up and went to Parilla for FOOTBALL! The Packers (Cole's favorite team) were playing the Panthers. Since we didn't get the game at home we decided to head to Parilla. Jake and Jessica came along and we ate breakfast and watched football. Parilla is one of THE places to hang for NFL football. They have tacos, burritos, and breakfast tacos in the morning - and don't forget the most important part - booze. Bloody Mary's to be exact.
The Hyde Park Street Fair is also the same weekend as Cole's birthday every year so after a while Jake headed out to work and Jessica and I headed to get some grocery shopping done while Cole met up with his friends Jason and Joe. They spent the afternoon bouncing back and forth between Parilla and the Street Fair. I meanwhile went home bought groceries and prepared for a 4 hour cooking marathon.
I decided to surprise Cole with a southern dinner. So I made the works, shrimp and grits, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and key lime pie for dessert. Cole isn't a huge cake fan and has been craving key lime pie for a while, so I took a shot at it. The meal was awesome. So amazing we could feel our arteries clogging as we ate the meal. There was nothing happy with a meal based on butter, bacon, cheese, and cream. But boy do those ingredients make for a GREAT meal! Jake and Jessica came over and enjoyed Cole's birthday dinner with us.
When Cole came home from the afternoon in Hyde Park I surprised him with a backpacking tent from Cabella's and two Star Wars DVDs that he had been wanting. He has been wanting to get into backpacking and is slowly building up his backpacking collection so the tent is a definite staple. Overall it was a busy, but very good day.
